What is Bitmask Games?

Video games are much more than a passive leisure activity. They are a unique and complex form of communication that supersedes the bounds of culture and language.

Game development requires the synthesis of logic and creativity, is the practical application of all academic subjects, and is a holistic sort of art form that encompasses every other.

Oh, and it is also very fun!

I've been teaching game development in different forums for 18 years; to children as young as 6 and adults as old as 80, in the classrooms of high schools and colleges and at gaming conventions and events. I'm very excited to bring this unique studio to the place I call home, Barrington, RI.

I can't wait to help you start creating!

A different way to teach game development...

While many game development programs are static, single curriculums, Bitmask Games functions much more akin to music lessons, where I am to meet students wherever they are in their journey and help elevate them to the next level.

Because of this, every class session is slightly different, and provides students the ability to continue to grow their skills and experience!

What are classes at Bitmask Games like?

Hear from the students themselves!

This is a quick video from a very creative group of young learners in this past Spring's Adventurer level class.

What is the experience like?

Over the summer, I teamed up with New England Institute of Technology and Skills for Rhode Island to work with high school seniors from around the state. This video is a quick look into their experience.

While high school students are featured here, students of any age (even you, parents!) are capable of making games and are certainly invited to come learn!
